ABOUT

This is a design build project focusing on wood joinery. The full scale prototype was required to span four feet and be able to hold up twenty five pounds. The span was primarily made of a central zig-zaging spine (holding in compression) and the braces around it are auxilary and help the span hold up (holding in tension). The use of double aingles makes the design complex, while keeping it simple, but it also helps the span from sheering. The prototype was made exclusively in wood joinery; no glue or fastener were allowed. There are finger joints, mortise and tenon joints, and dowel joints.
